Ultrasound guided injection

What is it?

This injection is a minimally invasive procedure used for treating various musculoskeletal painful conditions such as tendonitis, bursitis and neuritis. It is also an excellent tool for guiding the placement of needles.

The benefits of ultrasound guided injections include:

  • No exposure to ionizing radiation
  • Able to assess tendons, ligaments and muscles under high resolution
  • Provides direct visualisation of the treatment area
  • Ensures accurate placement of the needle to targeted areas

You can have the injections every three months if you need them. Generally, it’s best not to have more than four steroid joint injections in a year. This is because there’s a chance any more could damage your joint.

Your shoulder or elbow may feel numb after your injection, so it’s not advisable to drive home. You will also be required to rest your joint for a day or two afterwards.
