At the OrthTeam Centre, we offer a dedicated fluoroscopy service in a purpose-built fluoroscopy suite, supporting a range of image-guided joint injections. Fluoroscopy uses continuous, low-dose X-rays to produce real-time images during a procedure, allowing your clinician to see the position of the needle as it is guided to the target joint or surrounding structure.

What is fluoroscopy and what is it used for?

Unlike a standard X-ray, which produces a single image, fluoroscopy provides continuous, real-time imaging throughout a procedure. This enables your clinician to guide the needle while the injection is being performed.

Fluoroscopy-guided injections may be used to:

• Help diagnose the source of pain
• Deliver medication to the affected joint or surrounding area
• Reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms
• Support recovery alongside rehabilitation or other treatments

What to expect

Fluoroscopy forms part of your joint injection appointment. During the procedure, real-time X-ray images are used to guide the injection. Our experienced clinicians and radiographers will explain each stage of your treatment and ensure you are comfortable throughout.

Once your treatment is complete, your clinician will discuss any follow-up care and the next steps in your management plan.

Before your appointment

If there is any possibility that you may be pregnant, please inform your clinician or radiographer before your appointment so that appropriate precautions can be taken. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to remove jewellery or clothing containing metal. If you are taking blood-thinning medication or have any allergies, please let your clinical team know before your appointment.
