I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of knee surgery. I provide a specialist service for knee conditions including sports injuries, simple and complex knee ligament injuries, early and advanced arthritis of the knee, knee deformity and failed knee surgery.
I am highly experienced in performing keyhole operations (arthroscopy), anterior cruciate and complex ligament reconstructions, cartilage repair and regeneration, knee realignment (osteotomy), revision knee ligament surgery, partial and total knee replacements and revision knee replacements.
In the last 10 years I have undertaken approximately 1,400 knee replacements, 200 partial knee replacements, 120 revision knee replacements, 400 anterior cruciate reconstructions, 2,500 other arthroscopic (keyhole) knee operations and 150 osteotomies (knee realignment).
I have previously held the roles of; Orthopaedic Training Programme Director, Head of the North West School of Surgery, and founding chair of the Confederation of Post-Graduate Schools of Surgery. I was President of the British Orthopaedic Association in 2018-2019 and Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh until 2024. I was chair of the Professional Standards Committee, and I'm currently the College Lead for accreditation of overseas surgical training programmes and delivery of examinations before candidates move into consultant posts.
