Professor Chris Peach receives prestigious research award at the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Annual Scientific Meeting

OrthTeam's Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon, Professor Chris Peach has been recognised for his work on clinical outcomes of rotator cuff repair surgery using a bio inductive scaffold. He was awarded the Ian Kelly prize at the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) Annual Scientific Meeting in Aberdeen.

This novel treatment for rotator cuff repair surgery has already demonstrated that patients have better outcomes with this technique compared with more standard repair techniques, and Professor Peach was instrumental in setting up a national registry to collect outcomes from all of the surgeons carrying out this new technique. The soft tissue registry helps to enhance outcomes of surgery and is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom for surgeries around the shoulder and elbow.

Professor Chris Peach and OrthTeam's Consultant Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgeon, Mr Chye Yew Ng were also both invited to give guest lectures at the BESS instructional course.

Professor Chris Peach comments: "I'm humbled to be awarded the Ian Kelly research prize and accept this prestigious award on the behalf of the RePaRe study group.

"By setting-up a national soft tissue registry, which is the first of its kind in the UK for shoulder and elbow surgeries, we're able to collect data from every surgeon performing rotator cuff repair surgery using a bio inductive scaffold, and the results are very encouraging as we're already seeing better patient outcomes for this new technique."
