Mr Gurudatt Sisodia

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

I am a fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the treatment of knee and hip disorders.

I have expertise in performing modern arthroscopic (keyhole) reconstructive or repair surgery for ligament, cartilage and meniscal injuries of the knee. My approach is tailored to returning individuals back to their pre-injury activity levels in sports such as football, rugby, basketball, golf, netball, tennis etc - whether that be as a professional athlete or at an amateur level.

For those with early degenerative conditions of the knee or hip, I also offer joint preserving solutions such as cartilage regenerative procedures and injectable biologic therapies including PRP. For severe arthritis of the knee or hip, I frequently perform total knee and total hip replacements using modern techniques that are respectful to the soft tissues, including robotic-assisted surgery. I am also very much a proponent of partial knee replacement surgery, when appropriate, using implants that provide great long-term results.

I also provide specialist treatment for patella instability and anterior knee pain.

Originally from Manchester, I qualified from the University of Leeds in 2005 and undertook my orthopaedic training on the Yorkshire Specialist Training Rotation, culminating in achieving the FRCS (2014) and entry on to the Specialist Register in 2015. Following this, my subspecialist training was acquired from highly regarded Knee Fellowships with internationally renowned knee surgeons, namely Prof Nick London in Harrogate and BOA past president, Mr Tim Wilton. I further enhanced my skills by completing a prestigious international year-long Fellowship under the expert tutelage of Dr Jeff Gollish at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital – a designated 'Centre of Excellence' and Canada’s highest volume joint replacement centre.

My surgical experience has benefitted greatly from working in these highly regarded centres with world renowned surgeons, providing me with the skills to treat knee and hip conditions, in order to help patients reach their full potential.

Additionally, I completed a medical engineering master's degree with distinction, giving me a deep understanding of the materials and biomaterials used in orthopaedic surgery. I apply this knowledge whenever performing surgery, or selecting and positioning implants. I am passionate about teaching and training, and currently serve as the Orthopaedic Lead and an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Manchester University medical students undertaking their musculoskeletal training at Wythenshawe Hospital. I am a Clinical Supervisor for junior doctors and trainee surgeons and have previously held additional roles as a clinical tutor, anatomy demonstrator, and examiner for specialist registrars in the UK and Canada.  I have presented numerous research studies in journal publications and at national and international meetings, and continue my ongoing in interest in audit and research.

Within my practice there is much emphasis placed on achieving excellent outcomes, based on maintaining high standards of care, tailored to the individual. Above all else, I am dedicated to patient-centred care and I am driven by my commitment to providing patients the right treatment at the right time.
